Three-hour gouache painting using a triad from the color wheel (yellow-orange, blue-green, red-violet) for my color class. The assignment was to re-design a book cover, I chose Albert Camus' "The Myth of Sisyphus and other essays", although the myth isn't his.

In Greek mythology, Sisyphus is condemned by the gods to push a boulder up a hill for the rest of eternity. What better punishment than eternal arduous labor? Camus chose to show the idea that Sisyphus can be heroic by being graceful about his punishment, so I chose to not show any kind of strain.

This is beautiful. I've been looking for a portrayal of Sisyphus for a soul collage project I've been working on. This would've been perfect but I just wanted to comment to let you know that this, to me, is the best portrayal I've seen of this myth. The colors and the style.. Just wow.

We've been studying Camus's 'Myth of Sisyphus' in class and I have to say you portray the concept of his essay - or should I say spirit of the concept? - remarkably well. 'Hats off, gentlemen!'

Haha, thanks! I definitely wanted to show the spirit and I'm glad it was transferred on to the page. I think I'll re-do this piece with colors of my choice...this was a class assignment so I had to use a specific palette.

crap! it looks like hes going to slip!! *is scared for him*

Awesome by the way. I like Sisyphus, he reminds me of all human life - we keep on struggling even when we know we're never going to get there. ^^

Haha neat perception. Sisyphus is amazing, his never-ending struggle for nothing.

Lol, why does he do it anyway? I know he was condemned to, but why not just let it roll away and leave?

Hmm and thank you. ^^ I hardly ever get complimented for my perception - most people think I'm sadistic or weird. ^^

Nice. What's even cooler is that I have also read Camus's essay and can see Sisyphus's contentment with his position.
